About us
The Islamic Religious Community Erlangen was founded in early 2000 as an association of Muslims living in Erlangen. One of its primary objectives is to serve as a point of contact for Islamic religious education in German schools (IRE).
In the 2003/2004 school year, a unique nationwide pilot project called the "Erlangen Model" was introduced at Brucker Lache Elementary School at the request of the IRE. This model has proven successful and has been gradually expanded to additional schools in Erlangen. The IRE coordinates and supports Islamic religious education at several elementary and middle schools in the region.
"Beyond religious education, the IRE is actively engaged in various areas of interfaith dialogue and integration. It regularly organizes events, lectures, and gatherings to promote mutual understanding between religions and cultures.
The IRE sees itself as a bridge between the Muslim community and the citizens of Erlangen. It works closely with municipal institutions, other religious communities, and civil society organizations to foster harmonious coexistence.

Expansion of the Blue Mosque – A Project for the Future
The Turkish Islamic Community Erlangen e.V. is planning the expansion of the Blue Mosque. The project creates urgently needed facilities for prayer, education, and community events.
Arabic School Erlangen – Language Education for All Children from Age 5
The Arabic School of the IGE has been offering qualified Arabic language instruction for children from age 5 since the late 1990s – regardless of origin or native language. A contribution to cultural diversity and intercultural education in Erlangen.
New Mosque Building for Erlangen – A Space for Community and the Future
The IGE is planning to acquire a new mosque building at Erlanger Weg 2
(1,270 m² plot, approx. €1.7 million total costs) as an education center and community meeting point. Current information and donation options available on the project page.
