Expansion of the Blue Mosque – A Forward-Looking Community Project
A Center for Dialogue and Community
The Turkish Islamic Community of Erlangen e.V. was founded in 1981 by members of the first generation of Turkish guest workers and today has around 400 members. The community center is an important meeting place for cultural exchange and interfaith dialogue.
Why the Expansion Is So Important
Due to the lack of space, many worshippers – from over a dozen Muslim countries of origin – often pray in the entrance area. The new building creates space for an additional 350 people, especially for Friday prayers. New, bright rooms with large windows provide a learning-friendly atmosphere for children and young people. A modern multipurpose hall enables educational and cultural events.
Project Timeline
- June 6, 2025: Groundbreaking ceremony with members and dignitaries from the city
- June/July 2025: Start of structural work
- Dezember 2028: Geplante Fertigstellung und Nutzung des Neubaus
