For Muslims worldwide, Ramadan is a time of spiritual renewal, fasting from sunrise to sunset, and deep engagement with the fundamental values of faith: compassion, gratitude, self-discipline, and social responsibility.

Ramadan 2026 – Expected Dates
(Source: Islamisches Zentrum München e.V.)

The first day of Ramadan is expected to be February 18, 2026.
The Festival of Breaking the Fast (Eid al-Fitr) is expected to take place from March 20-22, 2026.

All dates are subject to change.

More Than Fasting – A Time for Community

During Ramadan, observant Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs daily from dawn until sunset. However, Ramadan means far more than abstinence: It is a time of inner reflection, prayer, charity, and coming together with family and community.

The evening breaking of the fast – called Iftar – is often celebrated together with family, friends, or at the mosque. These meals not only nourish the body, but also strengthen social cohesion and solidarity within the community.

Social Significance

Ramadan promotes social responsibility and compassion for others. Many Muslims intensify their charitable activities during this month, support those in need, and increase their engagement in their community. These values – compassion, generosity, and mutual support – are universal and connect people across religious and cultural boundaries.

Invitation to Dialogue

Ramadan offers a valuable opportunity for interfaith and intercultural exchange. Many mosque communities open their doors to interested visitors to experience the breaking of the fast together, ask questions, and learn more about Islamic traditions. These encounters promote mutual understanding and enrich multicultural coexistence in our society.

The Festival of Breaking the Fast

Ramadan concludes with Eid al-Fitr (the Festival of Breaking the Fast), one of the most important Islamic holidays. Families come together, exchange gifts, and celebrate the conclusion of the fasting month with festive meals and communal prayers.

Further Information

Specific dates and local events related to Ramadan 2026 will be available on our website in due course.

Contact:
Islamische Religionsgemeinschaft Erlangen e.V.
Website: www.ir-erlangen.de
E-Mail: kontakt@ir-erlangen.de

The fasting month of Ramadan is expected to begin on February 18, 2026.
